Private Pilates Sessions Q & A

Why should I consider private Pilates sessions?

Pilates is a modality of exercises that are beneficial to your health regardless of your physical fitness level. Programs involve low-impact exercises and movements that strengthen your muscles and help you build endurance. Each movement focuses on the correct alignment of your posture and muscles to improve core strength.

A Pilates-based program can be effective for maximizing your existing health, and the Momentum Physical Therapy team also tailor personal Pilates programs to assist you in your rehabilitation and recovery from an orthopedic injury, surgery, or to ease chronic pain from degenerative diseases or trauma.

By working one-on-one with a certified Pilates instructor, you learn the proper techniques to enhance your general health, lose weight, and reduce your risk of injuries down the line. You can also benefit from Pilates as an athlete, as the movements help enhance your balance and coordination.

What can I expect during private Pilates sessions?

Tanya is the first therapist in the United States to receive a certification in APPI (Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute) Pilates methods. She focuses on strengthening specific muscles in your body through floor exercises to relieve pain and restore normal function.

The team at Momentum Physical Therapy also offers the latest Balanced Body® Pilates equipment that helps you achieve a total body workout.

As you progress in your training, your therapist continues to update your Pilates program to address your needs and help you realize your optimal fitness potential.

How does APPI Pilates differ from other types?

The APPI Pilates method was designed by physical therapists, specifically for use in the rehabilitation setting. Traditional Pilates exercises are broken down and modified to be suitable for the clinical population. This method focuses on retraining the multifidus and the transverse abdominal muscles to improve the health and flexibility of your spine.

An APPI Pilates program consists of a progressive repetition of mat-based exercises that retrain specific muscles and:

  • Balance muscles
  • Stabilize the cervical spine
  • Align the lumbopelvic region

Through APPI Pilates, you can also enhance your own body awareness and learn techniques for improving and maintaining good posture to support a healthy spine.
